The ad shows an old man struggling with his business as he suffers from acute back pain. To make matters worse, his only son is away and tells him that he won’t be able to make it to the reunion dinner on the New Year. Fortunately, the old man’s friend, Ramu, not only gives him an analgesic cream to ease his back pain but also reaches out to his son informing him about his father’s condition, thereby, comforting his aching heart.
The ad serves as a reminder to everyone that the connections of the heart often trump biological bonds.
2. Giving Tree Global: Daily Family Reunion Dinner
The significance of reunion dinners during the Chinese New Year can’t be highlighted enough. It’s a time for families to come together, connect emotionally, and create lasting memories. But why should one wait until the holidays to celebrate togetherness?
This ad underscores how meaningful every meal shared with our loved ones is, regardless of whether it’s on a usual day or during special occasions. The ad, which is being narrated by a young boy, takes us through how his family is often invited by his grandmother for reunion dinners over the last few years.
To the old grandmother, her family sitting around the dinner table is what makes it the ‘New Year's Eve’, regardless of what day it is.
3. Spritzer Water: Speak From The Heart
Everyone looks forward to family reunions on Chinese New Year’s Eve. But what if your family keeps nagging you about all your personal affairs?
That’s what this short film focuses on as it takes us through the life of a guy who is being pestered by his family members to bring home his girlfriend for the family reunion. His only problem- he hasn’t got one! But as fate would have it, he crosses paths with a gifted woman, who can read people’s minds, just like he can. The two strike a deal and head over to the boy’s home where his aunt is seen nagging everyone for their choices. As it turns out, the non-stop questions from her family members for the last twenty years about when she will get married have turned her into the Madame Meddler that she is.
However, her nephew and his girlfriend’s reassuring words help her speak her mind for the first time in years as she finds the courage to say what’s truly in her heart.
4. Gintell: Home Without Judgement
If reunions with families can be difficult as seen in the previous ad, this advert shows that home and family can also be one’s greatest pillars of support.
The ad follows a young man struggling both on professional and personal fronts as his parents ask him to join them for the New Year reunion. Feeling ashamed of his failures and scared of being perceived as a disappointment by his parents, he reluctantly heads to his parents’ home. However, their love not only alleviates his fears but also instils in him the confidence that they will be there to support him in times of need.
After all, no matter where life takes us, it will always lead back to the warm embrace of our parents and the comfort of home.
5. MR. DIY: The Family Trial
And here’s the best CNY 2025 commercial that I have come across so far this year. After all, how often do we see a courtroom battle taking place in a CNY advert?
Staged as a courtroom drama, the ad showcases a father and his son facing off against each other as the latter successfully defends the former’s charges of avoiding his filial duties and not turning up for CNY reunions for two years straight! But will a victory in a staged courtroom scene trump real fatherly love?
