The Year of the Snake has kicked in and the festivities will continue right until the Lantern Festival on 12th February. Like each year, brands dished out wonderful ad campaigns leading up to the Lunar Year. From hilarious and emotional to absolutely exceptional, we brought to you some of the most awesome CNY ad campaigns from this year. But we had to save the best ones for the last (no, this isn’t the last CNY blog on this site that you will see this year).

So, here we are with the 5 best CNY 2025 commercials that offered a fresh take on love and tradition, centralized around the core CNY theme of reunion. Let’s take a look at these.

1. Petronas: Stay

The very first ad on this list is one hell of a tear-jerker that revolves around the sacrifices that a mother makes for her children. While those sacrifices might make little to no sense to the children initially, they realize their true worth at some point.

The ad shows a woman parting with her son Xiao Bao and leaving him with a couple immediately after celebrating Chinese New Year with them. The kid, who is naturally hurt to see his mother leave him, doesn’t understand why she is doing it. However, we later find out that it was meant to give him a better life, which wouldn’t have been possible had he stayed with his mother who had very limited means to help him be successful in life.

Thankfully, Xiao Bao realizes the value of the huge sacrifice his mother made for his sake and is shown thanking her and his foster parents much later on another Chinese New Year.

2. CelcomDigi: Threads of Legacy

Malaysian telecom company CelcomDigi released an awesome 5-minute CNY spot this season that underscores the significance of tradition and legacy.

The ad throws the spotlight on three generations of the Lee family who have been engaged in the craft of cheongsam making. While the first two generations, i.e.; the grandmother and her two daughters have completely dedicated themselves to the craft, the granddaughter Blaze manages their business’ social media. Due to the high number of orders on the Chinese New Year, Blaze’s mother and her aunt want to cancel the Cheongsam show. However, the grandmother is averse to this idea.

Thankfully, Blaze saves the day with her wonderful idea. Watch the ad to know how she honors and reimagines their family tradition in her own way.

3. Maxis: The Heart of Home

Almost every Chinese family has a central dining table that serves as the heart of the home. It’s where families come together to share both small and big moments.

What are the moments shared by this family, and will they stay connected despite the distance? Watch this beautiful advert to find out.

4. U Mobile: Yuán

Speaking of dining tables, here’s another lovely spot by the Malaysian telecom company U Mobile that sheds light on the significance of tradition.

The ad shows a grandpa hosting his children and grandchildren for the Chinese New Year dinner. However, when his children replace his old round dining table with the ones ordered online, he is clearly miffed. Why? Because of the cherished traditions, treasured memories, and heartfelt connections formed around his round dining table.

Watch the ad to see how the grandpa conveys his point of view to his children and helps them look at the dining table like he does, i.e.; not as an old piece of furniture but as a common connection for countless memories!

5. AmBank Group: The Reunion Drive

Sometimes showing up is all you need to do to bring a smile to someone else’s face and this ad by the Malaysian banking conglomerate AmBank highlights it amazingly.

The ad shows a young girl and her father on opposite ends due to their disagreements about their daughter’s charity work, which keeps her away from her family even during the Chinese New Year. But when her charity group faces transportation issues, which threaten the delivery of food packets to the poor and the needy, her father shows up with his friends and offers help, thereby showcasing the importance of turning up when you’re needed.

Wrapping Up

And that’s a wrap of some of the best CNY 2025 commercials. The Chinese New Year is all about kindness, festivity, and reunions, and the ads covered in this blog showcase that in plenty.
