Data from the World Economic Forum says that it will take another five generations to usher in gender equality at the current rate of progress. So, while we need to focus on taking swift and decisive steps to achieve that, we must also address and highlight the systemic barriers and biases that women face on both fronts- personal and professional. And brands can play a key role to that end through their thoughtful and powerful ad campaigns.

So, here we are with 5 impactful International Women’s Day 2025 commercials that highlighted women’s struggles and motivated viewers to take a step towards achieving gender equality.

1. Tanishq: Her Choice

Everyone loves to celebrate an empowered woman. But does being an empowered woman only mean that they should be working professionals, drive to work, and earn a livelihood? Or there’s more to it? This awesome advert by jewelry brand Tanishq will make you think hard about it.

The ad shows a woman getting ready for work as her husband prepares breakfast. But we soon find out that it’s indeed her husband who’s leaving for work. Just as we, like many other gender equality advocates, begin to see her as someone whose dreams have probably been crushed by the weight of responsibilities that women often have to endure in a marriage, she asks the viewers an important question- shouldn’t a woman’s own idea of empowerment be celebrated equally?

Empowerment, as we know it today, shouldn’t be another box for women to fit into. After all, real empowerment comes from letting them make their choices.

2. Prega News: She Can Carry Both

Pregnancy test kit brand Prega News has been dishing out amazing International Women’s Day ads year after year. And this year it’s back with another gem of an advert.

The ad follows a young girl at a parent-teacher meeting in school, where other parents are busy passing remarks about the absence of her mother from the meeting. Her mother, who’s serving in the army, shuts up everyone after she shows up in her army uniform. The young girl then reads out an essay in the class about how every woman who tries- from her mother and maid to her teacher and countless other women, is her hero.

In India, where only 27% of women continue to work after giving birth, a woman's efforts must be celebrated just as much as their accomplishments.

3. Bol: Flip The Script

Have you ever been asked to just smile and look pretty during a meeting? Or how to combine work and private life? For many women, this is a recognizable reality. To illustrate this, Dutch e-commerce brand Bol had some of its male employees step unprepared into an interview to experience what it is like to answer these questions and more on video.

The ad shows a woman asking some of the most disrespectful questions to these men. From thinking if their looks helped them reach where they are to whether or not their hormones ever got in the way of their work, men are subjected to some of the ridiculous questions that women are forced to answer almost every day.

Gender equality is not a women’s issue- it’s an issue that impacts everyone. So, all of us need to step up equally- women and men!

4. CARS24: Park Your Bias

Some choices feel instant. But are they really? We trust. We decide. We move on. But what if the real driver of our decisions is something we’ve never questioned?

Indian multinational online used car marketplace CARS24 decided to put it to the test. The results? Eye-opening. Watch the ad to find out why.

5. Snitch: Let’s Take a Stand

Women are often subjected to ridicule and even abuse of the worst kind for the same things that men also do. Men’s clothing brand Snitch decided to highlight this issue and encourage people to do something about it.

The ad shows a guy posting a #GetReadyWithMe video on social media and facing a lot of online trolling and abuse for the same. However, all you need to do is take one look at the comments to figure out that while the video might be fake, the comments are real. We see such comments almost every day under the posts of not only women influencers and celebrities but even women who barely ever post anything.

So, what do we do about it? Let’s report such comments and accounts and make the internet a safe place for everyone!
