5 Funny Football Ads That Will Ready The Stage for the Perfect FIFA World Cup 2022

With the FIFA World Cup 2022 beginning in just a couple of days and the football fever reaching an all-time high, it was only expected of us to treat you to some of the funniest football commercials for this week’s #FunnyFridays. And that’s exactly what we thought of too.

So, here we are with some of the funniest football commercials that will crack you up and get your mood right for the upcoming football World Cup 2022.

1. Qatar Airways: Land of FC Barcelona

This commercial from Qatar Airways features one of its planes making a landing in “The Land of Barcelona”.

Once the plane has landed, we get to see the biggest Barca stars engaged in some of the most mundane activities. For example, Gerard Pique stars as the grumpy customs officer, Lionel Messy is seen as a dance instructor making everyone dance to his tunes (just like he does on the field), and the former Blaugrana striker Gary Lineker ferries people around in his cab.

However, Carles Puyol saving the two ladies from a falling pot by deflecting it through a well-timed header is clearly the highlight of the ad.

2. Nike: Streaker Shox

Don’t we all love it when an intruder gets into the football field? I mean we all love the sport, but a few seconds of entertainment never hurt anyone. And it looks like Nike understood this all too well, which is probably why it themed this entire commercial around these lovely “intruders”.

And although intruders don’t always get too far with their endeavors, this 2003 Nike commercial certainly shows what an overweight naked man is capable of while wearing its shoes. I mean the fellow outran police and stewards all day long.

3. Carlsberg: The Fan Academy

What better way to be inspired than watching your favorite football stars doing what is actually expected of you? Well, this Carlsberg commercial must be truly applauded not just because of how humorous it is but also because of how it depicts these football stars as ordinary beings.

The beer company came up with this concept of a fan fantasy camp, where you could learn to hug by Ian Wright and learn to chant by Brian Blessed. Of course, if you wish to learn how to mop the floor, Diego Maradona would be the perfect tutor that you could hope for!

4. Adidas: Footballitis Study

As serious as that name sounds, this commercial from Adidas was only made to crack people up with laughter.

Before the 2002 World Cup, Adidas ran this commercial highlighting the ever-growing problem of “footballitis”. The good thing was that none of the subjects under study for the ad seem to have suffered much due to the condition. On the contrary, their skills seem to have advanced to a whole new level. I mean, deflecting balls while sleeping? Whooaaa, that’s amazing!

5. ESPN: The Date

Honestly, this commercial isn’t only about football. But Ian Darke is hilarious and since he’s British, he must know a thing or two about football😜

This 2014 commercial equates the date with a football match and Darke’s commentary could easily fit into both an ongoing football game as well as a date between two adults, except when the poor guy spills wine on the girl’s dress. I don’t think there are too many people who can make a comeback from that point in a football game. You just have to wait until another game, bro!

Wrapping Up

And that was a wrap of yet another #FunnyFridays segment. With the world cup beginning in just two days, brands can make the most of this quadrennial event by coming up with engaging ads. And these 5 funny ads mentioned above can certainly teach them a thing or two about advertising.

We’ll be back with more awesome commercials for you. Till then, stay tuned!
