Olympics 2024 has kicked off and has become the center of pretty much everyone’s attention (unless you are one of those bookworms)! And rightly so- after all, it’s the biggest sporting event with participants worldwide. Even Russian athletes participate in the games under different banners since the International Olympic Committee has banned athletes from representing Russia in the Olympics. Thus, it’s no surprise that the Olympics have all the eyeballs of brands operating in various industries too. And it would be atrocious to not take a look at those!
While we previously covered some of the best Olympic commercials from the 21st century, let’s today review the best Olympic 2024 commercials.
1. Nike: Winning Isn’t For Everyone
What do winners feel about their achievements, their failures, their struggles, their disappointments? Well, you’ll have to be a winner yourself to understand that.
Nike’s Olympics 2024 ad campaign “Winning Isn’t for Everyone” marks a strategic shift towards a more provocative and intense brand messaging. The 90-second features top-notch athletes like LeBron James, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kobe Bryant, and Serena Williams with Willem Dafoe’s voiceover in the background that challenges the conventional notions of sportsmanship by highlighting the extreme traits that are often seen in top athletes- such as relentless ambition and emotional detachment.
So, you think sports is all about positive sportsmanship and camaraderie? Never mind, like I said above, you have to be a winner to understand!
2. BBC: City of Love
If the Nike Olympics 2024 ad campaign is about winners, BBC’s ad campaign revolves around lovers. Yes, sports lovers!
The 60-second spot is laden with references to Paris’s reputation as one of the most romantic places. The ad highlights the lengths that athletes can go to in the pursuit of their dreams. Throughout the ad, we see analogies of how love can take your breath away and leave your head spinning.
From a candlelit bath in the glow of the Sacré-Cœur that turns out to be filled with ice, to a couple riding on a scooter, which gives way to competitive cyclists- the ad continuously draws parallels between romantic lovers and sports enthusiasts to demonstrate that love for sports is just as passionate as any other form of love.
3. Omega: Born to be a Legend
Omega, which is also the official timekeeper at the Paris Olympics, has launched a memorable ad campaign that reimagines Paris as an athletic playground.
The ad features the soundtrack “Born to be a Legend” by the French rapper SDM, which celebrates the spirit of overcoming challenges. The 60-second advert features a host of athletes- each one of them demonstrating their skills against the backdrop of Paris’ iconic landmarks. The ad not only showcases the athletic brilliance of the sportspersons included in the film but also sheds light on their indomitable spirit and celebrates their dreams and determination.
4. Jio Cinema: Dum Laga Ke Haisha
Jio Cinema, the OTT platform of Viacom18, which is the official broadcast and digital partner of Olympics 2024, has released an impressive Olympics 2024 commercial that celebrates and cheers the Indian Olympians.
The “Dum Laga Ke Haisha” campaign builds on the philosophy of the Olympics and breaks away from the conventional advertising template employed by past global sporting events for Indian audiences. So, instead of featuring serious-looking athletes training against motivational voiceovers, the ad instead takes a fresh approach and intertwines the magnitude of the Olympics as a global movement and its impact on daily Indian lives.
5. NBC Sports: Get a Look at America, Y’All
Immediately after the conclusion of the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, Beyoncé played the hype woman for the USA team in this promotional advert for the American sports media company NBC Sports.
The video shows Beyoncé introducing the athletes that will be representing the USA throughout the Olympics. Clad in a red, white, and blue ensemble, Beyoncé gives a shout-out to the USA athletes, wearing her blue cowboy hat and white cowboy boots. She then goes on to introduce some of the members of the team like Simone Biles, Sha’Carri Richardson, Noah Lyles, Caeleb Dressel, and Katie Ledecky.
Well, when Queen Beyoncé speaks, you have got to take notice!
Wrapping Up
And that was a wrap of some of the best Olympic 2024 commercials. This quadrennial sporting event hogs the limelight every time and I don’t think anyone has got any complaints. Athletes get a chance to showcase their skills at the biggest podium, the audience is treated to some of the most breathtaking sporting moments, and brands get a chance to make the most out of the event’s marketing potential. I reckon that’s a win-win scenario for everyone!
We’ll be back with more wonderful commercials for you. Till then, stay tuned!
