Hello folks, we are back this week with a mix of the best Father’s Day ads and #FunnyFridays. Dads are amazing and I feel that they are not often given the due credit for the hard work that they put in and the sacrifices that they make to raise their children. And one reason for this could be their cool attitude in handling most of their day-to-day issues. Maybe it’s because of the support that they receive from their female partners or simply their privileged status. But nobody could deny that dads are simply amazing and sometimes funny too!
So, here we are with 5 hilarious Father’s Day ads that will add a dash of laughter to your weekend.
1. Aviation American Gin: Vasectomy (2021)
You know Ryan Reynolds is up to something goofy as soon as you see him in an Aviation American Gin commercial. And this 2021 Father’s Day ad by the American gin brand is no exception.
Laced in sarcasm, the ad features Ryan guiding viewers through the recipe for Vasectomy- a gin whose unusual name left even Ryan confused. The 105-second spot is full of funny moments, whether it’s Ryan spilling lemon and ice cubes all over the place or him calling kids “sweet” sarcastically- this ad is hilarious to the core!
2. McDonald’s Australia: Something for Dad (2016)
This funny yet heartwarming McDonald’s ad shows the sacrifices that fathers often make for their kids, albeit in a hilarious fashion.
The ad showcases a guy making significant changes to his lifestyle after the birth of his baby girl. While certain changes like replacing his sport bike with a baby stroller and a motorcycling magazine with a parental booklet make us all go “awww”, others like sleeping on the floor, hosting his daughter’s young friends, being his daughter’s make-up buddy, and pulling out a toy from under his ass in the bathtub make you laugh your socks off.
3. Dollar Shave Club: Manifique- A Father's Day Gift (2019)
Dads come in various shapes and sizes, from the smallest of love handles to the biggest potbellies that you could think of. And Dollar Shave Club decided to celebrate all those fathers with not-quite-chiseled physiques in this 105-second spot.
The ad begins with a single man in a towel and his potbelly and then goes on to show a group of men in robes and underwear dancing and singing in their marvelous shapes. At the end of the synchronized dance moves, a text-over appears which welcomes dads to the club regardless of their body shape.
Middle-aged semi-naked men of different shapes and sizes, all grooving to a cool bespoke music track, and showcasing their funny dance moves- what else do you need for a good, hearty laughter?
4. Cheerios: How to Dad (2014)
Let’s face it- dads haven’t had it easy in the advertising industry! Companies often tend to portray them as giant children who can’t play any role in household tasks and suck at managing children efficiently.
But this 2014 Cheerios ad sought to break these stereotypes in a fun way and showed a man taking care of everyone’s needs in his family. And he does this while being super cool! So, he gets his wife a hot cup of coffee, gives his son some fashion advice on how to man up, and compliments his daughter on her profile picture. The ad isn’t overtly funny but you get the fun vibes- thanks to the amazing soundtrack and some mindblowing acting performance by the guy playing the father.
5. Durex: Happy Father’s Day (2004)
And here’s my favorite Father’s Day ad as far as funny ads are concerned. This 2004 Durex ad used some top-class dark humor to gain traction.
The ad shows Durex wishing people who don’t use their products on Father’s Day. While the ad might have come across as somewhat crass to some people, it is surely a delight to people like me who are fond of dark jokes.
So, do you use Durex?
Wrapping Up
And that was a wrap of another segment of Father’s Day ads and #FunnyFridays. While it’s not always easy to associate humor with such ads, the brands mentioned above have certainly done a good job of serving us with some hilarious and memorable adverts.
We’ll be back with more awesome ads next week. Till then, stay tuned!
