TV commercials have greatly evolved since they were first aired in the US over 8 decades ago. While initially TV ads were used to sell a product, their purpose today has shifted to impacting how a brand is perceived by its target audience. With ever-increasing competition among brands to stand out of the crowd, marketers need to come up with innovative ideas to keep their audiences hooked to their ads.
So, here we are with 5 innovative commercials that took everyone by surprise and made a major impact on viewers and the brand alike.
1. Amazon: The Show Must Go on
COVID-19 had a major impact on almost everyone’s life. And this Amazon commercial hit all the right notes by showcasing a young woman whose life is turned upside down when her hopes of performing a ballet are dashed by the pandemic.
However, when a neighbor spots her practicing, he organizes an outdoor show for her with the help of a simple flashlight that he orders from Amazon. Performing ballet on the terrace under the snow, that too in front of a live audience- I don’t think it could have been any better!
2. Nestle: Ma Contrexperience
Nestle-owned mineral water company came up with this funny and somewhat naughty ad that had ingenuity written all over it. The features a group of women who come across a line of exercise bikes with hidden motivation.
Bottles of water are kept right next to the bikes, which proves that the product placement was top-notch. Since the ad was filmed in a live setting, passers-by also got involved in the advertisement.
3. AeroMexico’s: DNA Discounts Campaign
Imagine being granted a discount on an airline simply because of your ancestry! Sounds unusual but amazing, right? But that’s exactly what the Mexican Airline company AeroMexico did to target the southern and western states of the US where there are more people with Mexican ancestry.
The ad showcased an AeroMexico representative interviewing a few residents about what they thought of Mexico as a travel destination. The ad also revealed that the residents would get a discount on AeroMexico’s flights based on the percentage of their Mexican ancestry.
Now, isn’t that the coolest marketing tactic ever?
4. McDonald’s: Night Workers
Every day, we come across so many people of whom we are completely oblivious but the world would cease functioning if it were not for them. This McDonald’s ad is an ode to all such workers, especially the ones working for McDonald’s.
The ad showcases McDonald’s workers who do night shifts and are somewhat overlooked. But they do their thankless jobs so that you can I can have a meal. Short, sweet, and effective- exactly what a TV ad should be like.
5. Samsung India: Samsung Service Ad
And now my favorite ad on the list. This one is a real tear-jerker. But kudos to the idea behind the ad. The ad highlights Samsung’s commitment to its customers and the extent to which it can go to ensure the best user experience for its users.
The ad shows a young girl calling a Samsung techie to get her TV fixed. However, she has a deadline for the same. As it turns out later, the girl calling the techie is visually challenged, and so are all the other kids who live with her at the hostel. Also, the deadline for repairing the TV was set so that the kids could watch one of their friends at the hostel perform at a singing reality show.
Got moist eyes? Told you already, it can trigger the waterworks!
Wrapping Up
And that was a wrap of some of the most innovative TV commercials. An effective ad makes the customer remember the ad and the brand. While creating such an ad is easier said than done, the ads mentioned above should serve as an inspiration.
We’ll be back with more mind-blowing commercials for you. Till then, stay tuned!
