Singapore celebrated its 59th Independence Day on 9th August. So, clearly, we are about two weeks late with this blog. But as they say, better late than never! Singapore, with its rich diversity and cultural heritage, has already cemented itself as a very significant regional player and is well on its way to becoming a global power. And, this confidence oozes out from its Independence Day ads from this year too.

So, here we are with 5 wonderful Singaporean Independence Day 2024 ads that showcase the spirit of the island nation.

1. NDPeeps: Not Alone

NDPeeps, the official channel for Singapore's National Day Parade (NDP) on YouTube, released this soundtrack, which was the theme song of this year.

The theme song "Not Alone" celebrates Singapore’s legacy and its people, reminding everyone of the bigger tapestry and family that they are part of. With over 200 participants across more than 10 distinct set pieces, this year’s music video is a colorful weaving of cherished memories across different generations. Spanning across nearly 60 years of the nation’s history are everyday Singaporean lives flowing and intertwining, depicting scenes of farewells, reunions, rites of passage, and celebrations.

The song is a testament to the fact that even as we journey individually, through our shared experiences and memories, we are not alone.

2. Singapore’s Air Force: A Mother's Love

Immigrants form a significant chunk of Singapore’s population and are an integral part of Singaporean society. This advert revolves around one such Indian immigrant serving the Singaporean Air Force.

The ad shows 2SG Vikneshvar fulfilling his childhood dream of being part of the National Day Parade. While he shares what he feels about this accomplishment, he is joined in by his mother who reveals how dearly he had wanted this to happen. By the time the ad ends, you might start feeling goosebumps. And why not, that's what patriotism does- it rubs onto you!

3. Singapore Airlines: In A Heartbeat

Singapore Airlines released a special rendition of the 2011 National Day theme song In A Heartbeat to celebrate Singapore's 59th birthday.

The rendition was performed by members of the Singapore Airlines Cabin Crew Music Society. Accompanying the rendition is a music video featuring leading stewardess Krystel, flight stewardess Tricia, flight steward Ming, chief steward Roushan, in-flight manager Halim, and leading steward Sam as singers and band members. The music video also features flight steward Rashid and flight stewardess Brittany as they return home and enjoy a day out with their child.

The music video ends with greetings from Singapore Airlines crew around the world including Singapore, London, Copenhagen, Tokyo, Milan, New York, Paris, Christchurch, Rome, Delhi, Los Angeles, and Johannesburg.

4. ActiveSG Circle: Dance of the Nation

All right, don’t mind the dance in this advert by ActiveSG Circle- focus on the energy of this campaign, instead!

ActiveSG Circle released this spot to celebrate Singapore’s 59th Independence Day. Choreographed to 2024’s National Day theme song ‘Not Alone’, this is a callout for everyone to Play On, Play Together and Celebrate National Day through sport! 5. Yeo’s: We Can Dream

Okay, you’re probably going to hate me for this but I felt like I should include this advert by Yeo’s. Not only because I loved this video but also because it has an element of humor about it too.

The ad showcases Singaporean singer and songwriter Annette Lee breaking her leg to Yeo’s soundtrack “Yes We Can” while featuring as multiple individuals. She is joined by the young Bronze-medalist Max Maeder, who is trying to match Lee’s energy😅
