2000s marked the turn of the century and this was well reflected in the advertising industry too. Brands had begun to get bolder with their marketing approach and the competition was on the rise. With a burgeoning middle class across the world, more people had access to TV than ever before and brands wanted to fully capitalize on this. So, it’s no wonder that the 2000s saw some of the most memorable commercials coming up during the early 2000s.
So, here we are with 5 iconic and memorable commercials from the early 2000s that will surely teach you a thing or two about marketing.
1. Budweiser: 9/11 Tribute
Well, no conversation about the 2000s is really complete without mentioning the 9/11 attacks. That event probably has had the biggest impact on all spheres of American life than all the others put together.
During the 2002 Super Bowl, Budweiser decided to pay tribute to the victims of the attack and New York City. For this, the beer brand came up with a poignant commercial that showed horses bowing to the city. The commercial was moving, beautiful, and without any unnecessary drama. Well done, Bud!
2. Chef Boyardee: The Can
You will surely remember this ad if you were born in the early or mid-90s. It’s because the ad is quite relatable and answers the age-old question of what if the food that your parents didn’t let you buy followed you home.
The ad shows Chef Boyardee can following a kid to his home when his mom doesn’t allow him to purchase it. The can even follows the traffic laws. Looks like not only the marketers but others can learn a few things from this law-abiding can too.
3. Capri Sun: Respect The Pouch
The “Respect the Pouch” campaign was highly successful but this commercial stood out for me the most.
The ad shows a couple of kids enjoying the Capri Sun juice. When one of the kids finishes his juice, he stomps on the pouch only to be disappeared. I’ve got to admit, the ad instilled in me a deep fear of being disrespectful.
4. Pepsi: Now And Then
While Britney Spears finds herself embroiled in all kinds of sad and controversial issues today, she was the unrivaled queen of American pop in 2002. And Pepsi made the most of her all-US appeal by crafting this wonderful Super Bowl commercial.
The ad was colorful and cheerful and filled with catchy tunes, which was further supplemented with the irresistible Britney Spears persona. The ad showcases Britney Spears radiating positive pop energy throughout various periods of the country’s history. It also followed the canonic structure of a period of travel that was to become viral with the advent of YouTube.
5. Dove: Campaign for Real Beauty
And here’s my favorite and undoubtedly the most memorable ad on this list. This campaign from Dove featured women of all shapes, sizes, and colors using Dove products. All of them have different reasons for choosing Dove.
The ad sent a powerful message to women everywhere and opened up the conversation about beauty standards in the media. The campaign was so successful that apart from commercials, this ad also found its way to magazines, social media platforms, and billboards.
Wrapping Up
And that was a wrap of some of the most memorable commercials from the early 2000s. You don’t need to have a huge budget or fancy equipment to craft a mind-blowing ad. All that you need is a strategy for how you want to capitalize on your target audience.
