5 Southeast Asian Ramadan 2024 Ads That Underscored The Importance of Belonging

As you all know, Muslims across the world are celebrating the holy month of Ramadan. And brands are doing their best to gain traction from their audiences by treating them to some of the most heartfelt Ramadan adverts. And, when it comes to marketing during Ramadan, Southeast Asian brands are second to none and have been actively dishing out Ramadan ad campaigns.

So, here we are with 5 amazing Southeast Asian Ramadan 2024 adverts that celebrate togetherness and emphasize the sense of belonging.

1. Watsons: Dimensi Raya Paling Unik

Answer honestly, have you never felt like getting rid of your family and getting an entirely new one? Fortunately, that’s not a luxury that we can afford. You may ask why I say it’s fortunate; well you’re about to find out in this advert.

Healthcare company Watsons released a commercial this Ramadan that revolved around a girl who’s wishing to get a new family on Ramadan. Why? Apparently, her busy father, her brother who’s the favorite kid, her mother’s poor tailoring skills, her boastful grandfather, her silent grandmother, and her nosey neighbor are the reasons.

But what happens when she is granted her wish? Watch this wonderful advert to find out!

2. MR. DIY: Sama-Sama Melangkah

Right from our childhood, our parents bear all kinds of difficulties to raise us and never abandon us even during the most adverse times. But do we reciprocate their kindness?

This heartwrenching ad by retail company MR. DIY revolves around a man who’s going through a rough patch financially. To make ends meet, he is forced to shift his mother to a shelter home. However, when his daughter chides him for letting go of his mother, his conscience strikes. Realizing his folly, he goes back to the shelter home, apologizes for his self-centered behavior, and brings her back.

3. Zakat Singapore: Bukan Asnah

If you’re a Muslim, this ad is for you. Even if you aren’t one, getting a thing or two out of this advert will do you no harm.

Singaporean charitable trust Zakat, which is a strategic unit under the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore and oversees the management and administration of Zakat funds in Singapore, came up with a 4-minute advert on the significance of performing Zakat in Ramadan. The ad sheds light on various aspects like who should receive your zakat and who you can entrust with your zakat money.

But that’s not it- the ad takes viewers on an emotional journey with all 8 asnaf (categories of people eligible to receive Zakat), each carrying a story of hope and resilience!

4. Grab: Aku Sebuah Beg Pesanan

A bag might not mean anything to us. But have you ever wondered how challenging it would be for a delivery agent to survive without their bag? Well, super app Grab did and came up with an amazing advert around this theme.

The ad revolves around the bag of a Grab delivery agent. Annoyed and frustrated at his treatment by its owner, the bag escapes and runs off to be on its own. However, it soon realizes the plight of its owner and his inability to complete deliveries without the bag. So, it goes back to the owner, who’s pleasantly surprised to find the bag on his bike.

I bet the owner couldn’t have asked for a better Ramadan gift!

5. Google Indonesia: Ini Ramadan Kita

Google Indonesia collaborated with JKT48 and Nasida Ria to launch a Ramadan song titled This is Our Ramadan.

The video clip displays several searches that people often search for on the Google search engine related to the month of Ramadan, starting from takjil, sports in the month of Ramadan, OOTD for fasting together, and clothing for Eid. The ad begins with Nasida Ria's group appearing in turquoise robes, while JKT48 wears pink and purple dresses. As the video clip progresses, Nasida Ria and JKT48 change clothes in various ways, and the background of the set changes too.

You see, including a musical video in your ad campaign is one sure-shot way of turning heads!
