I know it’s been quite a few months since Super Bowl 2024. But I have wanted to do this blog since I came across these adverts a few months ago. We have covered the best of marketing and it’s only fair that you also knew what poor marketing ads look like. So, here we are with the 5 worst Super Bowl 2024 commercials that will make you wonder who even okayed these ad campaigns.
Let’s take a look at these.
1. CrowdStrike: They’re Back
All right, let’s begin with the bad ones before we shift our focus to the worst ones. And the first one on this list is this stinker by the American cybersecurity technology company CrowdStrike.
This part “Westworld”, part “Star Wars”-like commercial features a town in the Old West that’s invaded by robots, which is a metaphor for hackers coming to hack your computer. But just when the townfolks thought all was lost, a young girl saves the day by fighting off the alien invaders with her tablet.
Honestly, I can’t think of an advert with a lesser exciting showdown!
2. Miller Lite: Running of the Beer Ads
You'd expect an ad to be at least funny if it has an established stand-up comedian featuring in it. But not from this Miller Lite advert!
The American beer brand came up with this 40-second spot that shows comedian Rob Rigle jogging in Miller Lite body paint for the brand's "Running of the Beers" campaign. Not "running a big game ad"? Well, you guys could have saved yourself this embarrassment had you not released an advert at all!
3. Kawasaki: Mullets
Okay, I have no idea what's the point of this advert. The only way you could possibly like this ad is if you're a fan of mullets and aren't completely stupid.
The ad begins with a couple of guys developing mullets as soon as they step into a Kawasaki ridge. What follows next is a complete "mulletification" of everything that comes their way from a hawk and a grizzly to Steve Austin and his dog. The ad ends with the slogan "business in the front, party in the back". Well, I'd say boring in the front, boring in the back!
4. Drumstick: Doctor on the Plane
Another brand that made a complete mess of its Super Bowl 2024 commercial despite having a comedian feature in it!
The ice cream brand released a 30-second spot featuring comedian Eric André, who falls ill on a plane. When the crew asks if there's a doctor on board, an ice cream cone named Dr. Umstick speaks up but makes it clear that he isn't a "body doctor". Instead of tending to the comedian, he goes on to give everyone an ice cream cone, thereby leaving both André and the audience in pain!
5. Temu: Shop Like A Billionaire
And here's the worst of the lot. E-commerce company Temu repeated its 'shop like a billionaire" theme from last year, with an animated young woman spinning through a world of merchandise.
The jingle in the ad is painful and lodges itself so deep in your brain that you might need to see a neurosurgeon to get it out. And guess what, since the game went into overtime, we were subjected to the torture of watching this commercial play at least three more times after the regulation ended.
Dear CBS, why would you torture your Super Bowl viewers like this?
Wrapping Up
And that was a wrap of some of the worst Super Bowl 2024 commercials. I know it isn't easy to come up with an advert that everybody loves. But it's equally challenging to come up with an ad that everyone hates. And the marketing teams behind the ads covered in this blog must have slogged their asses off to come up with such boring adverts. Next time, try coming up with better ad campaigns fellas.
We'll be back with more notable ad campaigns for you. Till then, stay tuned!
