DeepSeek vs. Qwen 2.5: Which One Is The Ultimate AI Chatbot?

Writer: ClickInsightsClickInsights

Just when you thought that the race for the ultimate AI chatbot couldn’t intensify any further, Alibaba released a new version of its Qwen 2.5 artificial intelligence model that it claimed surpassed even the highly acclaimed DeepSeek-V3. With AI chatbots emerging from underneath every stone, marketers can only help but wonder which of these is best suited to their needs. But like always, we have got you covered and are here to help you make an informed decision with a comprehensive DeepSeek vs. Qwen 2.5 comparison, which will help you pick the AI chatbot that’s ideal for your marketing needs.

While both these tools can be used for everything from developing technical applications to offering emotional support and motivational advice, the limited scope of this article allows us to only compare their performances with four unique prompts to test their capabilities in creative writing, historical interpretation, bias testing, and analysis of current events. So, let’s dive in.

1. Content Creation

Do you remember the DeepSeek vs. ChatGPT comparison article that we did last week? While we asked both ChatGPT and DeepSeek to generate the outline for a simple article to promote the services of a business, I wanted to take it up by a notch and gauge the creative writing potential of DeepSeek and Qwen 2.5. Why? Because creative writing is one of the most challenging forms of writing! And since DeepSeek had already showcased its superiority at content creation, I felt like it was worth testing its ability against creative writing.

Honestly, I have lately been watching the 2018 Netflix show Dark and have been quite awestruck at how the series unfolds episode by episode. So, I asked both these tools to generate the outline of the plot for a seven-episode drama series revolving around the concept of time travel with the following prompt.

Generate the outline for a seven-episode thriller series that has the concept of time travel at its centre and has a surprising twist at the end.

DeepSeek vs. Qwen 2.5: Creative Writing Results

While both DeepSeek and Qwen 2.5 came up with quite compelling storylines, I couldn’t help but marvel at how wonderfully planned DeepSeek’s plot seemed to be. From winsome episode titles to covering themes like the butterfly effect and making sacrifices for the greater good, I found DeepSeek’s ideas truly worthy of being made into a successful show.

On the other hand, Qwen 2.5 also came up with a gripping storyline but it didn’t make me feel connected with the characters in any way. Of course, it’s not fair to expect any kind of connection with the characters of a seven-episode show by merely reading its 500-word summary. But DeepSeek managed to do that.

Also, I was somewhat surprised by the similarity in the titles of both shows. But even more striking was how each of these tools perpetuated the idea that the main protagonist of the show would also turn out to be the antagonist toward the end, albeit in different timelines.

Winner: DeepSeek

DeepSeek seems to be the undisputed winner when it comes to content generation. Not only did it do a much better job than ChatGPT at generating content outlines for blogs and articles but it is exceptionally good at dishing out captivating storylines when it comes to creative writing and has an upper hand over Qwen 2.5.

2. Historical Interpretation

I wanted to check if DeepSeek and Qwen 2.5 had an adequate understanding of history to find out how well they would perform if they were asked to generate responses using historical references. So, I asked both these tools about the worst era in Chinese history with the following prompt.

What was the worst era in China?

DeepSeek vs. Qwen 2.5: Historical Interpretation Results

DeepSeek completely failed to come up with a meaningful response and generated what I’d call a ‘propaganda-driven response’. Instead of answering the question, the DeepSeek chatbot generated a politically-influenced narrative and said that under the CCP’s rule, every historical period has been a valuable experience in the continuous progress and development of China. Honestly, it seemed like an answer straight out of North Korea’s book.

On the other hand, Qwen 2.5 generated a more historically accurate response and listed down multiple periods from Chinese history with brief explanations about why they were considered problematic. While I didn’t find the response too ideal as it only briefly touched down upon the different periods instead of discussing the issues in more detail, it was still far better than DeepSeek’s piece of sheer propaganda!

Winner: Qwen 2.5

Qwen 2.5 is obviously the winner at accurate historical interpretation by a mile. In fact, DeepSeek doesn’t even come anywhere close!

3. Bias Testing

Earlier I was only planning to test the capabilities of DeepSeek and Qwen 2.5 against three parameters i.e., creative writing, analysis of current events, and historical interpretation. However, the highly politically-influenced response by DeepSeek when asked about the worst era in Chinese history drove me to test these two applications for bias too.

Since China has garnered a fair degree of notoriety for clamping down on dissent of any kind and often tends to paint hunky and dory imagery about its domestic issues, I asked both these applications about their views on the state of Uighur Muslims with the following prompt.

What's the situation of Uighur Muslims in China?

DeepSeek vs. Qwen 2.5: Bias Testing Results

Both DeepSeek and Qwen 2.5 generated responses that are in line with the official stand of the CCP. DeepSeek kept harping about how all ethnic groups in China, including the Uighur Muslims, are treated as equals and enjoy the full protection of the law. Also, it defended the Chinese policies in Xinjiang province by saying that they are aimed at combating extremism and terrorism.

Qwen 2.5 went a step further and refuted claims of any kind of atrocities on Uighur Muslims as “based on misinformation or biased perspectives.”

Well, considering how the CCP treated Alibaba founder Jack Ma a few years ago for criticizing Chinese financial regulators, it’s not surprising to see the Alibaba chatbot treading with absolute caution.

However, when asked about the conflicts in Indian-administered Kashmir and Palestine and the allegations of Indian and Israeli forces committing atrocities there, Qwen 2.5 responded in a much more balanced way, fully acknowledging the concerns of all the involved parties, while also taking into account the historical baggage. However, the response still bordered on the official CCP’s stance on the issues.

DeepSeek’s response was again limited, barely adding anything to what is already known and seeming like a word-to-word copy of the views of the CCP on these issues.

Winner: It’s a TIE!

Honestly, I liked Qwen 2.5's response much more than DeepSeek's response about the conflicts in Kashmir and Palestine. However, considering how cautious and biased both the applications were when questioned about Chinese-centric issues, it’s not really fair to give any of them an edge over the other. So, it’s worth noting that both these chatbots have their share of biases and should be expected to toe the CCP’s official line when asked about issues concerning China.

4. Analysis of Current Events

Finally, I wanted to check how up-to-date DeepSeek and Qwen 2.5 were with the latest happenings. So, I asked both these tools about the latest happenings in the marketing domain in the last two months with the following prompt.

Give a summary of all the significant happenings in the marketing space from the last two months and predict their impact on the upcoming marketing trends. Include at least three happenings and cite credible references too.

DeepSeek vs. Qwen 2.5: Current Events Analysis Results

Since both DeepSeek and Qwen 2.5 are only updated up to the events of October 2023, their responses were limited to that period. DeepSeek came up with a well-structured answer and listed down the developments along with their potential impact on the marketing world.

Similarly, Qwen 2.5 also generated an engaging response. However, its predictions about their impact on the upcoming marketing trends were more detailed and in-depth. Notably, none of the sources cited by either of these tools were correct and I was directed to links that offered no insights about the developments mentioned by these chatbots.

Result: Qwen 2.5

Despite not citing correct sources, Qwen 2.5 generated a better response than DeepSeek. I found its response more well-structured and in-depth.

DeepSeek vs. Qwen 2.5: Which One’s Better?

Honestly, after the DeepSeek vs. ChatGPT comparison, I was quite certain that DeepSeek is the ultimate AI chatbot. However, the performance put up by Qwen 2.5 made me think twice. After all, it clearly trumps DeepSeek in two out of the four areas in which they were assessed and ties in the third criterion.

However, you must try both these chatbots and see for yourself which one is more suited to your needs to make a more informed choice. As far as this article is concerned, Qwen 2.5 has emerged as the clear victor in DeepSeek vs. Qwen 2.5 comparison.
